Understanding Overthinking and Self-Doubt
Overthinking can sometimes feel protective rather than anxious.
You may find yourself going back and forth on decisions, questioning your actions, choices, or feelings, and feeling an urgent need to “get things right”.
It’s easy to frame overthinking or self-doubt as being logical or planning-oriented.
How overthinking can show up:
feeling like you need to justify your decisions
needing reassurance before feeling comfortable moving forward
comparing your choices to others and feeling unsure of your own
difficulty trusting your own judgment, even in familiar situations
getting stuck on trying to find the “right” answer/option
obsessing over how you were perceived in conversations
Enter inner critic:
The voice inside your head that’s telling you that you’re ruining everything or not getting things right. This voice questions why you did things the way you did them, why you couldn’t have predicted the future. It’s an exhausting voice that loops in your head because it’s the voice you’re most familiar with.
The pattern underneath:
When decisions feel tied to your worth, it becomes harder to move forward without overanalyzing. Thinking starts to replace trusting over time.
If your overthinking is fueled by intrusive thoughts:
In our work together, we focus on helping you reconnect with your own sense of judgment without needing to overthink every step.
This includes:
noticing when you’re getting pulled into cycles of self-doubt or comparison
understanding how your inner critic developed and what keeps it active
practicing making decisions without needing perfect certainty
practicing accepting outcomes without self-judgment
learning how to hold your choices with more steadiness
Over time:
more confidence in your own judgment and decisions
less comparison fueled choices
a more solid sense of self + self-worth
a quieter, less dominant inner critic
the ability to allow thoughts to exist without latching onto them
